History
Whitefish began as an alpine town in the late 1800s and served as a fur trading center. In the early 1900s, railroad workers began cutting down the first trees for the town site of Whitefish which is how it got the name “Stumptown.” The logging industry and Great Northern Railway allowed Whitefish to prosper and today it still holds much of the old- fashioned charm of its early days.
